Yes, you did read that correctly! It’s never really a win/lose outcome – it’s actually either a win-win or lose…
Why… you ask? Because the minute you view any kind of disagreement, debate or difference of opinion in the terms of winning or losing – you’ve already lost!
Hopefully you’ll be familiar with the expression ‘you may have won the battle, but you haven’t won the war’. Well that kind of applies here. You may have won the argument, and prevailed in ensuring that your point of view came out on top, but at the same time you unwittingly damaged the relationship – hence you really lost overall. Looking at ‘smart’ in a whole different way…
Ever wondered how smart you are? Traditionally intelligence has been understood as a single measure of ability that is largely set in stone from birth. In this conventional view, smart people have greater abilities and resources they can apply to any situation. The smarter you are, as often measured on an IQ test, the better you can handle anything in your path. Much research has supported this showing that people with high IQ’s did better in school, regardless of the subject, and over time this view has taken hold and shaped both our popular understanding of intelligence and our education system. Don’t let the winter blues get you down. Many of us are trying to implement our New Year health kick, recover from our holiday season indulgences, detox and shift a few pounds, so here are our 5 top tips for looking and feeling great:
- Drink more water – drinking an adequate amount of clean water is essential to maintaining your health and performance. You should aim to drink 30-35ml of water per kg of body weight, per day, eg: if you weigh 55kg, then you should drink approx 1.7 – 1.9 litres of water per day. Add a pinch of salt to each litre of water to improve taste and helps to maintain the correct salt balance in the body.Also avoid diuretics (drinks that dehydrate you) such as tea, coffee and alcohol. Which will also help you detox too. Drink herbal teas and fruit juices instead
I was coaching one of my clients recently and what we uncovered during the conversation was the impact that his close family are having on his life and his efforts to change it. And how, whilst having the best of intentions, they were part of what was holding him back. Now this is very common, and also a somewhat complex topic, which I’m not going to dive into right now. However one thing in particular that he said stood out to me. He revealed that his wife was of the opinion that he shouldn’t need to hire a coach to help him create a more successful life, he should be able to do it “on his own”. (more…)
